About the London Wine Blog

London wine blog

Eleven years ago, six friends got together and decided to create an informal wine club, so that we could discover new wines, learn a bit about different grapes (and how to taste them), find out about new wine producing countries and regions, and have a great excuse to get together more often. None of us know much about wine so this was a great way to learn and be confident enough to choose something new off a wine list rather than sticking to the things we knew.

It’s a bit like a book club, but with wine instead of books (actually, a lot like some of the book clubs I know…).

We meet once a month, and whoever’s hosting gets to choose the wine. We have a budget – between £10 and £12.50 each – and we usually try four wines.

In the London Wine blog, we’ll note some of the wines we try both in and out of wine club, and start to build a picture of the wines we loved and those we didn’t like much. We’ll also make a note of some of the more interesting places to buy wine that we’ve found along the way.

Who we are: Kate, Cynthia, Lea, Sarah, Vicki and Michael. Most updates here will be from me (Kate).

We’d always love to hear about wines you’ve tried, that you love or hate, or recommend. We’re also interested to know about good wine shops, whether they’re supermarkets with interesting deals, or independent wine specialists.
